The dos and don'ts of sec sorority rush wear

Though rush is an exciting, fun process that’s worth it in the end, it can be pretty exhausting running back and forth from houses in heels and a full face of makeup every day. Generally, rush is split up into four rounds; ice water, philanthropy, sisterhood, and preference. Because you only get a brief amount of time with each house, it is important that you dress to impress. This does not necessarily mean overspending on a wardrobe of brand-new dresses; instead, select unique and stylish pieces that will set you apart from the hundreds of other girls that pass through each house, whether that means selecting a unique color, fun accessory, or statement shoes.

Round One: Ice water

The ice water round is the most casual and laid back. It is an informal introduction to each sorority. The attire for this round is casual. At LSU’s Panhellenic chapter, this portion is online, so potential members are encouraged to wear a T-shirt and shorts. Most girls wore athletic tanks and skirts, though you can wear whatever casual clothes fit your style best.

Round Two: Philanthropy

This round is a bit dressier, but still pretty casual. You will be given a T-shirt for both days, which is paired with a skirt or shorts of choice. Stay away from super-fitted and short-length silhouettes and pick something conservative but still chic. As for shoes, a cute pair of sneakers or sandals is most appropriate. Don’t forget to add unique jewelry or hair accessories to elevate your look.

Round Three: Sisterhood

Sisterhood round was my favorite part of rush when it comes to dressing up. You’ll need two fun dresses, and for this round, it is vital that you set yourself apart. Hundreds of girls are shopping in the same places for rush, which means there will be many of the same dresses. I recommend trying to find one that is not from a popular store to avoid blending in too much. Similar to philanthropy, stay away from fitted and short silhouettes as well as cutouts or low-cut necklines. Pair your dress with sandals or small heels for a perfect fit.

Round Four: Preference

This is the most formal and important round. It is your last chance to talk with sorority members before making final decisions about your remaining houses. The attire is cocktail, which means you'll need to dress pretty fancily. When searching for your dress, imagine you are attending a family wedding. Again, let your style peek through, but avoid anything too fitted or low cut. Remember to slap on some heels and accessories to complete the look.

Bid Day:

Bid day is the most exciting day because you finally accept a bid and meet all your new sisters. This day is similar to ice water attire, as they will most likely give you a shirt and accessories to wear. Keep it simple with athleisure and do something fun with your hair and makeup. You'll want to look cute for pictures!

If you are rushing, know that it will be a positive experience no matter the outcome. If I could give you any advice it would be to go in with an open mind. Though it seems cliche, it is true what they say, you will end up where you are supposed to! Ignore stereotypes and the opinions of others and go where you feel most comfortable. Good luck and dress your best!!
